Say it with me, "The First 1,000 Days"

In the first 1,000 days of life, the brain grows more quickly than at any other time in our lives. Much of what we consume during that time is used to grow all of our new and rapidly developing parts—-especially the brain.

This may be new information for some parents. The other thing you might not know is that the clock starts from conception. The research that proves how important nutrition is in the first thousand days of life includes data from the gestational period when your child is in the womb.

From the moment your baby is/was conceived until her/his second birthday represents a period of time when your baby’s brain is vulnerable to poor nutrition.

Not to worry! We’re not about fear mongering and shaming ‘round these parts. We’re about support and education. The first thousand days are absolutely critical but that’s also a time when you’re sitting pretty squarely in the “driver’s seat”. Your baby will take your lead because they haven’t yet developed all of the language skills and “do their own thing” skills to defy your wishes. That’s why, if you choose to give them healthy, brain-building foods, that’s exactly what they’ll get.

Now don’t get me wrong, they will definitely spit out and knock over the foods they don’t like but with repetition, clever masking techniques and plain ole deception, we can spend 1000 days building their little brains like nobody’s business!
